Professor Feedback
Evaluate teaching quality, clarity, availability and engagement across structured rating dimensions and free-text comments.
FeedForward is a secure, anonymous feedback platform exclusively for CEU students. Rate professors and courses, help improve teaching quality, and build a culture of constructive academic dialogue — all compliant with GDPR and CEU data-protection policy.
A structured, trusted channel between CEU students and the institution — emphasising transparency, anonymity and actionable insights.
Evaluate teaching quality, clarity, availability and engagement across structured rating dimensions and free-text comments.
Rate course design, workload, materials, learning outcomes and relevance — giving departments data to continuously improve curricula.
Registration requires a valid @student.ceu.edu email address, ensuring that only current enrolled students can participate.
Feedback is anonymised at submission and never linked to student identity in reports. Data is processed under GDPR Article 6(1)(e).
Aggregated, anonymised analytics are shared with department heads and the Academic Council to inform quality assurance decisions.
Feedback is open during defined periods per semester, preventing campaign abuse and aligning with course evaluation best practices.

FeedForward is designed from the ground up to comply with GDPR, CEU's Data Protection Policy, and Austrian education law — making university approval straightforward.
Processing is based on a public-interest task — improving the quality of higher education. Data is minimised, and students are informed of their rights at registration.
Only the email address is collected to verify eligibility. After verification, it is hashed and not stored alongside any feedback record. Feedback contains no PII.
Submitted feedback is irreversibly decoupled from any student identity before persistence. Reports expose only aggregated statistics — never individual responses.
The platform is operated under the authority of the CEU Academic Council. Dashboard access is restricted to authorised academic staff per department.
Raw feedback data is retained for no longer than 5 years from collection, after which it is permanently deleted. Students may request early deletion at any time.
Role-based access control ensures that professors cannot access their own individual feedback records, only aggregated reports prepared by the Quality Assurance Office.
Students retain the right to access, rectify, and erase their data at any time. A dedicated data-subject request portal is accessible from every page.
Registration is restricted to the official CEU student email domain. This prevents external actors from submitting feedback and ensures all participants are current students.
All administrative actions (access grants, report exports, deletion requests) are logged in an immutable audit trail available to the Data Protection Officer.
Data Controller: Central European University, Quellenstraße 51, 1100 Vienna, Austria.
Purpose: To collect anonymous structured feedback from enrolled students to support teaching quality assurance and academic programme improvement.
Legal basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(e) — processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest (higher education quality assurance).
Data collected: Student email address (for eligibility verification only; not retained with feedback), ratings (1–5 per dimension), and optional free-text comments. No name, student ID, or demographic information is collected.
Anonymisation: Email addresses are used only to verify eligibility and prevent duplicate submissions. After submission, no linkage is maintained between feedback and the submitting student.
Recipients: Aggregated, anonymised reports are accessible to the Academic Council and, where relevant, department heads. Individual responses are never shared.
Retention: Feedback data is retained for five (5) academic years, after which it is permanently deleted from all systems.
Your rights: You have the right to access, rectify, erase, or restrict the processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at). To exercise these rights, contact dpo@ceu.edu.
A proposal to replace ad-hoc, paper-based evaluation forms with a digital-first, privacy-respecting platform that actually gets used.
Current CEU end-of-term evaluation forms suffer from low completion rates, generic questions, and no mechanism for students to track whether their feedback was acted upon. Anonymity guarantees are unclear, reducing trust and the quality of input.
FeedForward provides a dedicated, mobile-friendly web platform accessible with existing CEU student credentials. It separates professor and course feedback, uses structured rating dimensions that map to CEU quality criteria, and provides real-time anonymity guarantees backed by technical controls.
A controlled pilot with two departments and volunteer professors. Feedback collected under a full DPIA. Results shared with Academic Council.
Independent security and privacy audit by CEU's Data Protection Officer. Integration with CEU SSO for seamless authentication.
University-wide deployment, replacing existing paper forms. Ongoing monitoring and a Student Advisory Board to guide future improvements.
This MVP was developed by a CEU MS Business Analytics student as a proposal for the Academic Council. For questions or to discuss university approval, please contact balint.decsi@student.ceu.edu.
